Jason Fried of 37 Signals on Getting Real & Application Design

Occasionally, one runs across a person that just oozes a special genius for their work and their life. Today, I was lucky enough to interview one such person - Jason Fried.

Jason is one of the masterminds behind 37 Signals, a leading web app company whose blog Signal vs. Noise has almost 25,000 subscribers. 37 Signals has launched 5 successful and innovative online apps used by over 500,000 people.

The company has also recently released an ebook called Getting Real that explains their design, programming and marketing philosophies. The book has sold over 5,000 copies (10,000 if you count the site licenses) in the short time it has been available. I highly recommend the book. It's like a 9-course meal of inspiration.

The interview was phenomenal. Jason did a great job of passionately explaining his company, their philosophy about application design, how to hire great people (it's about passion!), Ruby on Rails, and more.

Unfortunately, Skype cut out in the middle. Fortunately, since the last time it happened to me, I've acquired better software and was able to integrate the two pieces into a single file (there is a slight delay between the two pieces).

Enjoy!
